Mohamed Alaabar brings over two decades of specialized expertise in fire protection, safety compliance, and emergency response, supported by a robust academic foundation and professional leadership. Since May 2012, as Head of the Inspection Division at Bahrain’s General Directorate of Civil Defence, he has led a team of inspectors, managing daily routes, safety assessments, and compliance with Bahrain Fire Code and NFPA standards. His role is pivotal in overseeing inspection processes, collaborating with ministries on urgent safety evaluations, and fostering innovative solutions through cross-divisional teamwork. A dedicated educator, Alaabar co-established and co-tutored the Foundational Fire Inspector Course in 2023, incorporating materials from the University of Maryland’s Fire Protection Engineering program and Civil Defence decree, code and standards. He has also delivered lectures on fire safety and human behavior to various organizations, including ministries and events like the IAFC in Bahrain.
Alaabar holds a Master of Engineering in Fire Protection from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Fire and Explosion Engineering from the University of Leeds, complemented by training from The Fire Service College and The Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College. His international experience includes serving on the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan Urban Search and Rescue Committee (2014–2018). Certified as a Fire Inspector I, he has earned the Prince Salman Bin Hamad Medal. His publication on photogrammetry in museum experiences underscores his innovative approach to safety and technology.
